Gandhi was also a vegetarian, and rightly so. A recent statement from the UN’s World Food Program warned that the increasing demand for meat has been creating a rise in food prices, causing millions to go hungry. Meat is a totally inefficient food source. We grow plenty enough crops to feed the population of the world but we waste most of it by feeding it to animals instead of feeding it to the hungry.
The meat industry is also fuelling the GM crops industry and is a major cause of climate change (accountable for 18% of greenhouse gases).
If you really want to stop wasting food and consume it more efficiently, stop eating meat.
