Melodyne Direct Note Access

This recording technology is leaps and bounds ahead of anything before it.  THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!  If you are a recording musician then you must watch this!!

Imagine remixing a classic Beatles song, but changing the harmonies and chords to minor, and altering it rhythmically.  And that is just one example, this revolutionizes the recording industry!

Melodyne is a very powerful piece of software. Various levels of “auto-tune” software have been around for a while but this one certainly brings it to a new level. As with any kind of quantization software, this can be a gift or a curse. Melodyne can be used in quite creative ways but it can also help fix poor musicianship. The use of auto-tune, time correction and other such tools is something that often plagues the world of recording/production. I think it’s impressive stuff but it needs to be used sparingly and as a last resort instead of being the next step in the recording process.

Benobriensmith- I agree, there is too much over production these days. Good digital software is no replacement for good musicianship. On the other hand, good musicianship and good software can be revolutionary working in concert. The reason that I think this is such a big deal, is because it is going to revolutionize mixes of cross genre and old material. Soon, Nirvana will be remixed to sound like BeeJees, and the song will lead into Bob Marley. (Just my crazy example)
This is the beginning of something HUGE…
