US Army turning Science Fiction into Science Fact

The US Army is working on project’s that at one time would have been deemed the realm of Science Fiction.  Gizmodo reports that top Army Scientists are working on
  • Regenerating body parts on “nano-scaffolding”.  Growing back body parts, both internal organs and limbs, using molecular-sized particles that act as nano-scaffolding for the human cells to grow, dissolving after the organ has regenerated.
  • Telepathy through electronic impulses in the scalp.  Devices that will translate one soldier’s thoughts into electrical signals that can be beamed to other soldiers, to help in stealth operations.
  • Self-aware virtual photo-realistic soldiers that can be deployed in the battlefield through “quantum ghost imaging”
  • A project to erase memories

Anyone familiar with the military will agree that if these are the Projects that the Army are telling us about, then the Top Secret Projects must be even more amazing.  The really big question is: will these technologies benefit all humans, or will an elite use these God like tools to enslave humanity and empower itself?  It seems an obvious answer from the state of affairs today.  Already the elite 1% of this planet use existing tech to boss and coral the other 99%, why should we expect anything less of them as The Singularity draws nearer?
What would it mean to have humans that can regrow body parts?  What would it mean if you could beam your thoughts to another person?  This would surely herald in a new human, no longer Homo Sapien, but Cyber Sapien .  These humans would be vastly more powerful then then the outdated model (us).  And these kinds of technological leaps are only going to start getting bigger and more often.
So it is critical that we ask the right questions now, and not let the cultural and societal/political paradigm shifting capabilities of High Tech catch us unawares.  Some poignant questions are:

  • Can we ensure that tools like the ones above will be used to heal the sick worldwide, no matter the cost?
  • Can we ensure that everyone on Earth has clean air, water, and free power?
  • Can we create “Green” Technology and Energy?  Meaning the production and waste disposal are 100% sustainable?
  • Can we create “Green” Technology and Energy Infrastructures that fuel an economic explosion?
  • Can the ease of information and knowledge availability melt away age old divisions like racism & sexism?
  • Will the world of our grandchildren resemble the world of our grandparents?
Now is the time to begin ensuring that the trajectory of our launch is on the proper coordinates.  If out of the diversity of our time, Oneness is to Emerge, then the people who are alive now must forget their petty differences and come together to Heal and Honor this Planet and this Time.  The Torch is passing from one generation to the next, and it is our duty to stoke and guard it’s Ancient Flame.

My ideal birth….

Natalie and I are taking HypnoBirthing classes to prepare for the arrival of our first born son, Sol.  HypnoBirthing is a method of self or Birthing Partner induced hypnosis, that removes your mind from pain and discomfort .  One of our exercises was to envision what we think would be the perfect birthing experience.  So here goes….
I would like Natalie’s labor to be natural, not induced.  And it would be nice to transport to the birthing center without too much discomfort.  Hopefully Sol will be born at Sutter Birthing Center.  I envision Natalie relaxing in a tub while she is in the first stage, practicing big balloon breaths.  At this point I would be preparing the room and completing any paperwork that needs to be done.  As she enters stage 2 and begins her “J” breaths, she gets  on her hands and knees and allows her body to instinctually push Sol out.  I envision myself receiving my newborn son and saying a prayer over him, after which I immediately place him on his mothers chest.
After the appropriate time, I say another prayer and then cut the umbilical cord.  Sol is then cleaned and given back to Natalie and I who are now located in the bed.
At no time during the delivery is Natalie put under any medication or epidural.  The birth will be completely natural and will happen in perfect timing.  Our son will not rip or hurt his momma.  At no time will Natalie or I be made to feel dis-empowered or scared, and we will not be separated during the whole experience, from each other or Sol.  I will remain aware and near at all times, an active participant in the birth.
After Sol arrives, we will all 3 be left alone to meet and connect for the first time.  Sol will immediately begin breastfeeding earnestly and easily.  Natalie and I will have our celebration meal with our son present, and then when all is good we will leave and begin our lives together.

The 507 Effect – Blogging

Today I want to talk about blogging, vlogging, and other forms of self expression that exist on-line.  Though relatively new concepts to the general public, these tools have actually been around for quite a few years.  The original scientists on the ARPANET were blogging in there own way.  But recently these tools have exploded into the mainstream, being adopted by people of all cultures.  Why do people blog?  For a multitude of reasons.  Traditional journalists are finding an outlet that is vastly superior to their paper mediums, artists and authors are finding a way to disseminate their writings to the world.  Families and friends stay updated and in touch, people spill their hearts out onto their on-line journals.  In a world that has been divided with war and class lines, blogs are opening up avenues of understanding and connection that previously did not exist.
This is an interesting time to be alive.  New models of expression are arising.  Untried and exciting art forms are being developed before our very eyes, in this generation.  So it is pretty cool to be involved and evolved enough to participate in the trend.  And this is only the beginning.  Holograms, virtual worlds, live video streaming from your phone, soon this will all be ubiquitous and people who would have never considered having a blog will have 2 or 3.
The important thing to remember is that website hits don’t matter nearly as much as content.  Of course there is a fine balance between the two.  If you are writing world class stuff but are getting 0 hits then your writing is going nowhere.  On the other hand if you are getting 1,000,000 hits a day but only copying and pasting other peoples writings then it doesn’t matter either.  The key is to find that balance: fresh and interesting content with an original voice and a loyal group of readers/bloggers.  The most important of all of these is an original voice.  That is the very essence of blogging, having a place to express yourself.  By putting your stuff online, you are accepting that some people may walk by and not like it.  Just as likely is someone who will walk by, like it, and leave a comment with a link to their site.  Kindly do the same on their site, and soon you will have a loyal reader, as well as someone of a like mind that is posting original content also.  And by this methodground-roots communities emerge out of the billions of people online.
Question of the day:  Why do you blog?

The 507 Effect – Obamanation

It’s official, Obama is the new President Elect and we are witnessing a historic event.  This is the kind of man that will one day be put onto our money.  There are a lot of lofty words to be thrown around on this occasion, and I will leave that to the pundits.  But even with my innate distrust of our politicians, I am still struck by the depth of this moment.  Can you feel it?  The torch has passed to a new generation.  Of course, he must now tread through the Bush minefield, but that will come later, for now let me appreciate this changing of the guard.  I know that getting out of Iraq is going to be a bitch that is gonna take years, I know that the economy has tanked, I know that the earth’s ecology is changing.  I even know that the ability of one man to change it, especially one man who is beholden to corporate interests, is very minimal.  But I also know that America has taken a great fall in our standing of the world.  As a nation we were caricturized by Bush, ignorant, mean, greedy.  Now, we truly have a fresh slate and the world may see us as a nation changing for the better, growing up and becoming mature.  Rascism is by no means over, but this is a milestone in terms of who has his or her finger on “the button”.  This is an Obamanation.

The 507 Effect – Finally! Election Day!

Finally!  It’s election day!  And we shall soon know who it is we’ll despise in a couple of years.  As I posted earlier this week, I won’t be voting this year.  The way I see it, by not voting, I am reserving my right to bitch and complain about the failures of whoever is elected.  Because let’s get one thing straight here folks.  Whoever is elected is going to be a failure in our eyes.  Only to the super elite 1% of this planet will this next president seem like a champion.  Why do I say that?  Because the last 8 years have set us back so far that no matter who “wins” today, they will be bound to a course that was set before they took command of the oval office.  A course that try as they may, they can not alter.
The corporate cronies have robbed America blind.  Bush & the boys have fucked every single institution that made America a great nation.  To some it seems like the mistakes of an idiot administration, mistakes that could be righted by an Obama Administration.  But these tragedies of the last 8 years were not mistakes.  Each great tragedy, 9-11, Afghanistan, Iraq, New Orleans, the stock market, all of these tragedies led to a decrease in civil rights and a slight shift toward a Fascist police state.  If you asked someone who was alive in the the 60s civil right movement what they thought of today, they would say that we have moved backward just as much as we have moved forward.
“Moved back as much as we’ve moved forward?! But a ‘black’ man might be president!” you might be saying.  But that doesn’t really matter, that is just window dressing for the tourists.  The truth is that civil rights for people of all races and sexes have been scaled back by the bush administration.  And if there are any more environmental, military, economic, or terrorist disasters, we stand on the brink of total police state, no matter who the president is, Obama or McCain.
So I won’t be voting, because the outcome of this election was decided long ago.  But if you must go out and vote, for God’s sake vote for the “black” guy!
