The 507 Effect – Obamanation

It’s official, Obama is the new President Elect and we are witnessing a historic event.  This is the kind of man that will one day be put onto our money.  There are a lot of lofty words to be thrown around on this occasion, and I will leave that to the pundits.  But even with my innate distrust of our politicians, I am still struck by the depth of this moment.  Can you feel it?  The torch has passed to a new generation.  Of course, he must now tread through the Bush minefield, but that will come later, for now let me appreciate this changing of the guard.  I know that getting out of Iraq is going to be a bitch that is gonna take years, I know that the economy has tanked, I know that the earth’s ecology is changing.  I even know that the ability of one man to change it, especially one man who is beholden to corporate interests, is very minimal.  But I also know that America has taken a great fall in our standing of the world.  As a nation we were caricturized by Bush, ignorant, mean, greedy.  Now, we truly have a fresh slate and the world may see us as a nation changing for the better, growing up and becoming mature.  Rascism is by no means over, but this is a milestone in terms of who has his or her finger on “the button”.  This is an Obamanation.

The 507 Effect – Finally! Election Day!

Finally!  It’s election day!  And we shall soon know who it is we’ll despise in a couple of years.  As I posted earlier this week, I won’t be voting this year.  The way I see it, by not voting, I am reserving my right to bitch and complain about the failures of whoever is elected.  Because let’s get one thing straight here folks.  Whoever is elected is going to be a failure in our eyes.  Only to the super elite 1% of this planet will this next president seem like a champion.  Why do I say that?  Because the last 8 years have set us back so far that no matter who “wins” today, they will be bound to a course that was set before they took command of the oval office.  A course that try as they may, they can not alter.
The corporate cronies have robbed America blind.  Bush & the boys have fucked every single institution that made America a great nation.  To some it seems like the mistakes of an idiot administration, mistakes that could be righted by an Obama Administration.  But these tragedies of the last 8 years were not mistakes.  Each great tragedy, 9-11, Afghanistan, Iraq, New Orleans, the stock market, all of these tragedies led to a decrease in civil rights and a slight shift toward a Fascist police state.  If you asked someone who was alive in the the 60s civil right movement what they thought of today, they would say that we have moved backward just as much as we have moved forward.
“Moved back as much as we’ve moved forward?! But a ‘black’ man might be president!” you might be saying.  But that doesn’t really matter, that is just window dressing for the tourists.  The truth is that civil rights for people of all races and sexes have been scaled back by the bush administration.  And if there are any more environmental, military, economic, or terrorist disasters, we stand on the brink of total police state, no matter who the president is, Obama or McCain.
So I won’t be voting, because the outcome of this election was decided long ago.  But if you must go out and vote, for God’s sake vote for the “black” guy!

McCain or Obama?
